The Sun Dance

This ceremony gets its name from the Lakota Sioux, whose variation  of the custom involved the warriors looking towards the sun as they danced. The Plains Indians considered this to be a very important ceremony, a test of courage and the Sun Dance occurred each summer and could last a week.

Our logo is the globe - which acts as an indicator of the international nature of many of our features.

There were many rites performed secretly over the period with much wisdom being shared and the ceremony reached its climax with a self-torturous dance, during which the dancers [braves] would try to free themselves from skewers which had pierced the chest muscles until such times as the flesh was torn asunder.

This meant that the brave had to lean backward with all his weight, as the skewers were fastened upwards to a center pole approximately 30 feet away from the dancer. The Sun Dance was an essential show of courage by a young brave - the agony induced visions, which would later be communicated to the tribal elders and holy men.
